PENANG Island City Council (MBPP) councillors have come together and urged fellow councillor Dr. Lim Mah Hui to apologise to the council for his false statements against it.

A press conference was held on March 23 at Komtar where 16 MBPP councillors were present to defend the council and also their enforcement department.

“We do not ask that Lim apologise to us (councillors) but he should apologise to the council, Mayor of MBPP, MBPP secretary and enforcement for his previous statements against them,” said councillor Ong Ah Teong.

Ong added that the 16 councillors present were from all the parties and had no intention of accusing Lim of lying.

“We are simply referring to Lim’s statement on March 22 and comparing it with his original statement on March 1. There’s also a 11-minute video online where we can prove that his statements did change in a timespan of 21 days,” said Ong.

Councillor Chris Lee said the main purpose of the press conference was not to malign or defame Lim but rather clarify the facts and also urge Lim to apologise to the council and its hardworking staff.

Regarding the issue that our enforcement staff slack off at work or go completely AWOL, I would like to defend them as there has been nothing regarding this that has been brought to my attention. My question to Lim is why didn’t he raise up these issues during the councillors’ monthly meeting,” said Harvindar Darshan Singh.

Harvindar added that Lim should have discussed the issue with the council or fellow councillors instead of complaining to the Chief Minister.
