Avago Tech’s plans for its Penang site

DATUK Lee Kah Choon, director of investPenang held a joint press conference with Avago Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd (a Broadcom Limited Company) at the investPenang office in Bayan Baru on June 24 to share Broadcom’s plans. Representing Broadcom was BC Ooi (pix), the senior vice-president of Global Operations, Broadcom Malaysia, and its finance director Eu Gin Tan

“Mergers and acquisitions will impact Penang in times to come. I am proud to have Mr B. C. Ooi who is a Penangite to share with us what are some of Broadcom’s plans,” Lee said.

“Broadcom Limited is a diversified global semiconductor leader built on 50 years of innovation, collaboration and engineering excellence. On Feb 1, 2016, Avago Technologies Ltd completed its acquisition of Broadcom Corporation. The combined company is Broadcom Ltd. It will have an annual revenue of greater than US$15 billion,” Ooi said.

“In addition, Avago Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd will be adding a significant warehouse operation in Batu Kawan Industrial Park. We expect to be operational in mid-2017 and grow to several hundred employees. We will ship from Penang a significant portion of our US$15 billion revenue,” he added.

“We have a very strong engineering talent. We will have 175 engineers and 60 global supply chain operations to support the expansion of activities in Penang by end of December this year,” Ooi said.
