Meeting for engineers to mingle, network

COME Nov 22, the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisation (CAFEO33) conference will be held in Penang.
The five-day event, themed “From Light to Bytes: Asean Engineering Evolution and Future Challenges”, will see some 1,000 engineers and delegates from 10 Asean countries converging to mingle and network with each other.
The Institute of Engineers, Malaysia
(IEM) Penang Branch is the organiser of the event.
“Among the programmes lined up include workshops, technical seminars, country reports and technical visits to tourist and industrial sites and heritage places,” IEM (Penang Branch) immediate past chairman Paul Phor Chi Wei said at a press conference with exco for Tourism Development Law Heng Kiang at Komtar on June 24.
Phor said there will be an added spouse programme with an island tour on Nov 24 and heritage tour on Nov 25.
“We are calling for delegates to present technical papers under the sub-themes of integrated public transportation system in urban development, electrical, electronic, mechanical, information and communication technology engineering, engineering
and technology for sustainable infrastructure design, chemical and environmental engineering development and engineering education and women engineering in developing countries,” he added.
Meanwhile, Law said the conference is timely as it coincides with the Penang Bridge Marathon to be held on Nov 22.
The closing ceremony of the conference on Nov 25 will highlight the closing banquet and IEM Penang
Branch 48th anniversary dinner, performance of delegates from Asean countries and other foreign delegates
and the flag hand-over to the incoming president of CAFEO 34.
The conference of the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO) has been held annually since 1982 by 10 Asean member countries, including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Mynamar.
It has also attracted the participations of engineering organisations of the USA, Japan, Korea, Australia, China, India, Germany and the United Kingdom, the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) and Asean Academy of Enginnering
and Technology (AAET).
