Penang cheers for Pandelela, Cheong

BACK at the 2012 London Olympics, Pandelela Rinong made Malaysia proud with the bronze medal in the women’s 10m platform in diving.

Fast forward to the 2016 Rio Olypmics and Lim once again conveyed his wishes to divers Cheong Jun Hoong and Pandelela who made the country proud as they clinched Malaysia’s first medal at the games after winning a silver in the women’s 10m platform synchronised on Aug 9.

In a press conference in Komtar on Aug 11, Lim said: “Thank you and congratulations to Pandelela and Cheong. Diving is a sports full of potential. That’s why Penang is building swimming and diving pools. The Relau Sports Complex is already 60% completed and expected to be ready by next year. We are also planning another Olympic size swimming pool in Butterworth. Penang, being surrounded by water, definitely has a lot of people who enjoy swimming and diving.
