SEMICON Southeast Asia 2015, the first to be held in the country, will see investPenang being the supporting partner of SEMI in organising the event.

Datuk Lee Kah Choon, director of investPenang made the announcement to members of the press at his office on March 9.
Also present was investPenang general manager Loo Lee Lian.

“Penang was chosen to host SEMICON SEA 2015 due to the vibrancy in the semiconductor industry. According to MIDA statistics, total approved investments in the E&E industry for Malaysia totalled RM11.1 billion in 2014. Exports of E&E products amounted to RM256.1 billion in 2014, contributing 43.6% of the country’s total manufacturing exports last year,” Lee said.

The president of SEMI SEA, Ng Kai Fai, provided a written statement explaining why Penang was chosen as the venue.
“We appreciate investPenang’s continued support and effort to attract globally significant industry events like the inaugural SEMICON SEA of the State of Penang,” he said.

“Penang is indeed an ideal venue given the state’s reputation as the ‘Silicon Valley of the East’ and Malaysia’s vibrant eco-system for the semiconductor industry. SEMICON Southeast Asia offers deep networking opportunities for industry stakeholders and at the same time, facilitate industry players within the region to collaborate and innovate to become larger players in this US$19 billion industry,” he added.

SEMICON SEA will take place on April 22-24 at the SPICE Arena.
