SPICE Arena upgrade 80% completed

THE renovation of SPICE Arena in Bayan Baru is now about 80% completed and expected to be ready by end of 2016.
The whole renovation package, expected to cost around RM350 million, covers the upgrading of the canopy area, arena, aquatic club, children’s theme park, international convention and exhibition centre, and the solar photovoltaic system at the aquatic club roof, among others.
Exco for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Chow Kon Yeow said this at a press conference during a site visit on Oct 16.
He was accompanied by SP Setia Bhd Group general manager Ng Han Seong, its senior manager (technical) Tang Song Teik and MBPP building director Yew Tong Siang.
Meanwhile, Ng said the refurbishment and rectification works completed included roof replacement, facelift work, facade lighting, air-conditioning upgrade, chiller installation, security surveillance system, renovation and external painting works; with a contract cost of RM22 million.
In addition, he added the 25-storey, 453-room business class SPICE Hotel, which will commence construction work by the first quarter of 2016, is estimated to cost RM300 million.
