Container gym built to promote healthy lifestyle

 

THANKS to the effort by various parties to promote a healthy lifestyle, a public gym was officially opened in Sungai Gelugor today.

The gym was built in the two containers that house the cardio and weights training equipment in the Seri Delima state constituency.

One 40-foot container was donated by the Persatuan Kebajikan Insan Pulau Pinang (Insaniah) worth RM8,000 while another 20-foot container was contributed by Insaniah as well as Sungai Gelugor Football Club, and Masjid Jamek Sungai Gelugor.

Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh has contributed RM16,300 for the upgrading purposes; state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee has contributed RM10,000 for the gym equipment, while the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Muhamad Khairul Mohd Ali chipped in RM3,000 and Mutiara Bersatu donated RM2,000.

As part of the ‘Jelajah ❤️ Penang’ programme to engage with the community, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his delegation visited the gym.

He also spent his time trying out the gym equipment after touring the facilities.

Also present were Soon, Ramkarpal,
Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abd Rashid, and the Sungai Gelugor Village Community Management Council (MPKK) members.

The gym operates from 5pm to 10pm daily.

The ‘tacoma’ trees planting in the Japanese Garden in Island Park.

Chow and his delegation also took their time to visit the Japanese Garden in Island Park.

At the event, Chow and those present planted the ‘Tacoma’ trees.

He also took the opportunity to visit a community garden located in the park.

Chow and the others who were present also tried out the fresh GAC fruit juice, which is consumed as a healthy beverage.
