Covid-19 forces ‘I Love Penang Run 2020’ to go virtual

ONE of the popular sports events in Penang, ‘I Love Penang Run’, has to be reset for the second time.

According to state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, the run, which has been rescheduled to be held on Dec 6 from March 29 at Beach Street, would now go virtual instead from 21 Dec 2020 to 3 Jan 2021.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused  the organisers  to shift the event on March 29 and Dec 6 due to the implementation of movement control order (MCO) and the ongoing conditional movement control order (CMCO) respectively.

“It will now be an inaugural virtual run for the ‘I Love Penang Run’ which is set to take place from Dec 21 this year to Jan 3 next year.

“All participants will be allowed to run anytime, anywhere within a specific period of time and need to accumulate a distance of 5km, with no exact location or dedicated route.

“The participants can use any running application available to record their running distance.

“They can email their results together with their names and IC number, to the organiser at [email protected],’’ Soon told a press conference at Komtar today.

“All participants will be entitled to a runner’s T-shirt and medal and the eligible participants can download their electronic certificates after Jan 3  2021 on ‘I Love Penang’ Facebook.

“For more information, follow ‘I Love Penang’ Facebook,’’ added Soon.
