THE Penang government today announced the ‘Skim Bantuan Pengurusan dan Pentadbiran’ (SBPP) for all state sports associations in an effort to further accelerate the sports sector in the state.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said that as of now, there were 48 sports associations registered under the Penang State Sports Council.

“All 48 associations are responsible to develop and enhance various active sports available in the state.

“Previously, these associations were being assisted with limited development funds, but now with SBPP, they can expect an even stronger administrative and management ruling within the capacity of each association.

“It is understandable that for any sports association to function actively and efficiently, a strong administrative and management team is truly vital,” Soon said during a press conference in Komtar today.

Soon said the aid would be distributed accordingly, depending on the performance of all the 48 associations within a period of 12 months from Dec 1 this year to Nov 30 next year.

“The associations must put together a team effort and excel collectively, especially in the areas of administration and management throughout this period,” Soon added.

The associations will be evaluated by a group of representatives from the Penang State Sports Council.

Based on the results, the associations will then be grouped into categories A, B and C.

Associations selected under category A will receive an aid of RM20,000 while B and C will receive RM10,000 and RM5,000 respectively.

Also present during the press conference was Penang State Sports Council director Harry Chai Heng Hua.
