Penang govt praises Fomeda for helping flood victims in Selangor and Pahang

THE Federation of Malaysian Electrical Appliances Dealers’ Association (Fomeda) has recently stepped forward to contribute a total of RM685,000 in cash and kind to the flood victims of Selangor and Pahang.

Their flood relief aid included a RM25,000 donation from the Radio Traders Association of Penang and Province Wellesley.

State Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh thanked them for their kind gesture when the Fomeda members, led by their president Ng Chye Weng, presented the symbolic contribution to him in a simple ceremony in Komtar today.

Phee says it is an honour to serve.

“The Penang government was ready to face the (weather) challenges in December and when things happened in Selangor and Pahang, the Chief Minister (Chow Kon Yeow) immediately asked us to transfer our resources to them.

“Within one week since we started to help on Dec 20, we had managed to send in 50 40-foot containers to the victims. Most of the essential items in the containers came from the public.

“This does not take into account of those people who go by themselves in their cars, four-wheel drive and smaller lorries.

“I am proud to be a Penangite. Penangites are so caring and sharing, ever ready to offer help to any other people in times of disaster. That’s why it makes all of us Penangites very proud.

“We quickly mobilised our team from the Mutiara Food Bank and other organisations to assist them.

“It is an honour to be able to serve with a caring heart,” Phee said.

Ng says Fomeda donated electrical items or basic essentials to the flood victims.

Ng said Fomena had helped the victims on Jan 3 through the Penang state government and other agencies, donating either electrical items or basic food essentials.

Radio Traders Association of Penang and Province Wellesley (RTAPPW) president Gee Ching Chai, who was also present, said his association members were keen to work with the state government to lend a hand.

Gee says the Radio Traders Association of Penang and Province Wellesley donated RM25,000 to Fomeda to help the flood victims in Selangor and Pahang.

Among those in the delegation calling on Phee were RTAPPW advisers Datuk Seri Chew Weng Khak (Pensonic Holdings Bhd group executive chairman) and Datuk Koay Ah Meng (Tonmooi Group of Companies managing director), and their committee members Jason Lim Siang Cherng (Best Point Furniture & Electric Sdn Bhd general manager) and C.C. Chan (Shin Tatt Electrical Sdn Bhd.).
