Sports activities as a means to develop healthy community

SPORTS can be used as an effective medium to bring awareness on health, says state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee.

“The state government is always ready to work with sports organisations as well as all relevant parties to advocate the importance of taking care of one’s health,” Soon said during his speech at the ‘Bagan Specialist Incredible Run’ on Jan 5.

“I believe that organising sports activities such as this is indeed an investment for better health and a promotion of unity.

“Apart from that, it will help to educate our future generations on matters regarding health.”

The run, which was organised by the Bagan Specialist Centre, saw the participation of some 700 people.

Soon also commended the Bagan Specialist Centre for setting up the GIM Palliative Radiotherapy Fund in collaboration with the Penang Hospice Society.

“The fund will help cancer patients to have quality life through palliative radiotherapy.

“It is a therapy to control or relieve cancer-related pain and other symptoms when long-term cancer control is no longer possible,” said Soon, who is also the Bagan Jermal assemblyman.
