THE International Women’s Association, Penang Branch (IWA) recently held a press conference to present monetary support to four non-profit organisations.

The press conference was held with help from the office of state exco member for Welfare, Caring Society and Environment, Phee Boon Poh, on March 28 at Komtar.

The four organisations which received cheques from IWA Penang were Charis Hospice, an organisation that gives free palliative homecare to cancer patients, Silver Jubilee Home, an old folks home, the National Council of Women’s Association Malaysia and the Ramakrishna Ashrama orphanage.

A total of RM18 000 was given out, with Charis Hospice receiving RM3 000 to aid their renovation efforts for its new premises in Paya Terubong, Silver Jubilee Home getting RM3 000 to help cover medication costs, the National Council of Women’s Association Malaysia RM6 000 to help fund its Anti Human Trafficking Programme in Penang and Ramakrishna Ashrama received RM6 000 for its”’Sponsor a Child Programme”.

Marlene Fox, vice-president of IWA Penang, said this was one way that the organisation helps and gives back to the community that they’ve embraced as their own.

“IWA is heavily involved in community services projects within Penang, especially those associated with women and children. We support these charities with our fund-raising efforts and a strong volunteer programme,” she added.
