IT was definitely a night to remember at the Dell Technologies Malaysia 30th anniversary celebration held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas tonight.

Hundreds of dignitaries, including government officials and special guests, attended a delicious eight-course dinner, highlighted by a high-energy pop rock band performance and various cultural performances to commemorate the milestone.

The anniversary celebration was attended by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

In his speech, Chow congratulated Dell Technologies Malaysia on its 30th anniversary in the state.

Chow congratulated Dell Technologies Malaysia on its 30th anniversary in the state.

“Now, many of you know the story — it all started when the then chief minister flew to Round Rock, Texas, to meet a young Datuk Michael Dell.

“From that one bold meeting, Penang became home to Dell’s first factory here in Bayan Lepas, then later at Bukit Minyak.

“From starting out in the basement of the old Equatorial Hotel — imagine that, a tech giant starting from a hotel basement!

“Dell has grown into one of the biggest and most successful operations in Malaysia, serving not just our country, but also ASEAN, India, Australia and New Zealand. Truly an amazing story,” said Chow.

Chow stressed that the occasion was more than a corporate anniversary.

“It is about celebrating a partnership between Dell and Penang, between innovation and people.

“And this partnership fits perfectly with our Penang2030 vision, which is to make Penang a smart, inclusive and resilient state,” he said.

Chow also highlighted the importance of digital transformation in shaping Penang’s future.

“The digital economy is no longer tomorrow’s challenge, it is already here, today. That is why we are driving the Penang Digital Economy Master Plan, aligned with our mandate to Penangites.

“It’s about enabling businesses to digitalise, equipping our youth with new skills, and helping start-ups grow into tomorrow’s success stories.

“But the state government cannot do this alone. We need strong partners. And Dell has been that partner for the past 30 years; innovating with purpose, investing in people, and proving that technology can change lives for the better.

“So tonight, let me just say this, Dell’s journey is also Penang’s journey. And as we move forward, I have no doubt that together, we will continue to write even greater chapters in this story,” Chow concluded.

Also present were Dell Technologies Malaysia and Indonesia managing director Sumash Singh and Dell Malaysia managing director Koay Tze Siang.
