A LITTLE girl’s dream came true when she was brave enough to request a conducive playground in her neighbourhood at Taman Chai Leng via a letter to the caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.
Ten-year-old K. Joanna Kristhina was beaming with joy when Chow, accompanied by Ramasamy, visited her at the newly upgraded playground today.
Impressed by Joanna’s bravery and genuineness, Chow commended her and expressed that every child has the right to speak up their mind.
“This is something to be emulated as when you have the courage to ask for something, you will be able to receive it.
“I hope that this would be seen as an inspiration for the children to voice their concerns or suggestions, be it at school, home or through letters to their respective assemblymen, councillors or even the mayor.
“We (state government) are always concerned and we will try to help fulfil their requests according to our capacity,” Chow said when he visited the park today.
Chow also added that the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) can discuss with the residents at Taman Chai Leng about further enhancing the facilities.
It was learned that Joanna’s letter was received by Chow on Feb 11.
Following that, the playground and the basketball court underwent an upgrading work and now they are ready for the residents to use.
Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said the park will be further enhanced.
“Our current upgrading work included the replacement of the existing structures as we have replaced those broken ones with new ones.
“Certainly, more work will be done here. We will also look into any other requests to further beautify the place.
“We hope that the people will have more sense of belonging when they use the park, and with that, we could avoid the incidences of vandalism,“ Azhar said.
