DIGITAL literacy is no longer a luxury but an essential life skill, said Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, as he urged the next generation to embrace technology and innovation.
Speaking at the Young Digital Innovators Competition 2025 held at Penang Science Cluster (PSC) in George Town today, Jagdeep said the future belongs to those who can build, think critically, and innovate using digital tools.

“This competition is more than just a showcase of talent, it is a launchpad for future technologists.

“By engaging over 90 students from 28 schools across Penang, it has successfully empowered them to take bold first steps into the world of coding, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital design,” he said.
He stressed that such initiatives are crucial in preparing students for careers in the fast-evolving global digital economy.
The Young Digital Innovators Competition 2025 is a state-level programme under PSC’s Coding for All initiative, supported by the Penang government. It combines hands-on learning and real-world applications through workshops and a culminating competition to nurture creativity, technical skills, and digital fluency among secondary school students.
Jagdeep expressed his appreciation to PSC for organising the impactful programme and also extended his gratitude to the Penang Education Department (JPN) for their unwavering support.
“This partnership between government, educators, and the community exemplifies how powerful outcomes can be achieved when we work together toward a shared vision which is empowering our youth,” he said.
Addressing the participants, Jagdeep reminded them that success is not solely defined by winning awards.
“Whether or not you received a prize today, you are already winners. You have challenged yourselves to think differently, acquire new skills, and solve complex problems.
“This is the very qualities that define tomorrow’s leaders, engineers, and entrepreneurs,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming the state’s commitment to building a digitally empowered generation.
“Together, let us continue our journey to make Penang a smart state, driven by a new wave of digital innovators,” he said.
Also present was PSC chief executive officer Datuk Ooi Peng Ee.
