IN order to safeguard pets as well as to spread love, care, safety towards them, Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP), together with the Seberang Perai community and non-governmental organisation, organised a ‘dog neutering and pet educational programme’.

State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who attended the event, stressed the importance of having a licence to keep pets and advised people against dumping dogs or cats anywhere.

“If you want to keep a dog, you must know how to take care of it,” said Phee in his speech during the programme at Taman Lucky Community Management Council (MPKK) hall on June 30.

“During this half day programme, parties from state Department of Veterinary Services, volunteer veterinary doctors, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Seberang Perai (SPCA) and other parties are here to educate our community on pet vaccinations, pet licensing, dog and cat adoption, pet exhibition and dog neutering programme.

“It will be very beneficial to our community.”

MPSP secretary Rosnani Mahmod added that this programme was held as one of the MPSP’s initiatives in creating a safe environment.

“The stray dog issue is still a critical issue which until May 2019, MPSP has received 1,195 complaints.

“However, MPSP has done a short term dog catching operation. One of its long term programmes is to educate and create awareness,” said Rosnani.

It is learnt that MPSP has been collaborating with private veterinary clinics to render dog sterilisation services below market price of RM180 for a female dog and RM80 for a male dog.

Many pet lovers attended the programme to enjoy the benefits offered.
