HAN Chiang High School, with the support of Penang STEM, is all ready to host the second half of Penang STEM Showcase 2023 on Aug 25 and 26.

The first part of the programme, which was held on May 12 and May 13 this year at the University of Wollongong at Batu Kawan, catered to an impressive turnout of 9,000 students.

Caretaker Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr Ramasamy said Penang STEM has always been instrumental in cultivating scientific thinking among school children through various initiatives.

“We are not competing with the school system but are complementing it by trying to infuse scientific thinking among our students, which is lacking in our country.

“Science is more than just a subject – it is a way of thinking and acquiring knowledge. Every day revolves around science, overall science cannot be just reduced to subjects in schools.

“What I would like to emphasise here is that science encompasses a scientific philosophy,” Ramasamy said during a press conference held at Han Chiang High School on June 25.

Penang STEM consists of the Penang Science Cluster, Penang Math Platform, Penang Digital Library, Penang Skills Development Centre, and Tech Dome Penang.

Ramasamy added that Penang is actively leading STEM initiatives. However, he said more work must be done in order to further foster students’ knowledge and skills in STEM fields.
