GOOD news for residents in Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Lepas, years of inconvenience caused by the absence of a nearby petrol station will soon come to an end!
Bayan Lepas assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz, who is also the Penang Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, has announced that a new petrol station under the BHPetrol brand is in the pipeline and currently at the planning permission stage.

“The station will be located on a 0.8-acre site in Sungai Batu, directly opposite Flat Taman Emas.
“Setting up a petrol station is no simple task as it involves many layers of approvals and planning.
“As the elected representative here, I had to secure investors, identify suitable land, and resolve various technical matters.
“Rest assured, I will do my best to expedite the process. Residents here have waited far too long,” Azrul told Buletin Mutiara during an exclusive interview at his service centre in Teluk Kumbar today.
Azrul also shared updates on a proposed road-widening initiative from the Puspakom Teluk Kumbar (FT006) stretch to Bukit Belah to ease traffic congestion — a daily frustration for many commuters.
“We are currently awaiting funding from the Federal Government for this project. Once completed, we expect traffic congestion in the area to reduce by up to 30%.
“In the meantime, we are also working with developers to include road widening as part of their housing project contributions.
“This way, road improvements can begin even before Federal funds are released,” he said.
Azrul urged the public to recognise that efforts are being made to resolve traffic issues not only in Teluk Kumbar but across the broader Bayan Lepas area.
Azrul also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for announcing a special allocation of RM5 million during a recent visit to Penang, to fund several basic infrastructure projects in Teluk Kumbar and nearby communities.
Among the key projects is the upcoming Kompleks Madani Teluk Kumbar, which will also house a Mini Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
“I’m very thankful that the Prime Minister approved the setting up of a Mini UTC within the complex, which is currently under construction and slated for completion by 31 January 2027,” he said.
The Mini UTC will host various government departments, including the National Registration Department (NRD), Road Transport Department (JPJ), and Immigration Department, bringing essential services closer to residents.
He emphasised that Kompleks Madani is more than just a new public market, it is set to become a landmark development for Teluk Kumbar.
“The complex will improve local infrastructure and help manage traffic congestion, especially in Bayan Lepas,” he said.
The two-storey complex, covering 74,000 square feet, will feature 78 stalls and eight kiosks, a multi-purpose hall with five badminton courts, administrative offices, dedicated parking for 103 cars, 54 motorcycles, and 22 bicycles.
It will also incorporate green building features, universal design for accessibility, public toilets, changing rooms, and various other amenities to serve the community.
“This development reflects our commitment to meeting the growing needs of Teluk Kumbar and surrounding areas,” Azrul concluded.
