Aid for fire victims

CHIEF Minister Lim Guan Eng on Aug 17 handed out initial aid amounting to RM9,000 to 12 fire victims of Kampung Gertak Sanggul
near Teluk Kumbar.
Six families whose houses were destroyed received RM1,000 each, five whose houses were partially damaged received RM500 and a coffee shop
owner a ls o r eceived RM500.
Lim said the payment was made following standard operating procedures (SOPs) set up by the state.
“This is an initial payment from the state government, and we will plan further payments necessary for the fire victims,” he said after handing over the aid to the victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Poi Eng at Gertak Sanggul.
At the function, representatives from SRS Consortium also handed over schooling necessities to students affected by the fire.
Lim also expressed his sympathies to the families who lost their houses in the fire, and are temporarily putting up in the school’s hall.
Lim was also taken to view the nearby site where fire razed the eight houses at around 6pm on Aug 17.

Caring Society and Environment, Phee Boon Poh, director of Penang Welfare Department, Said Sidek, and Southwest district officer,
