SOME 5,000 Balik Pulau residents were this morning feted to Penang’s famous delicacies, courtesy of the offices of their state and parliamentary constituencies.
Balik Pulau MP Mohd Bakthiar Wan Chik said the Hari Raya open house function was jointly organised by his Balik Pulau parliamentary constituency, and Teluk Bahang and Pulau Betong state constituencies.
“This year’s open house held from 11.30am to 3pm on June 9 at Sekolah Menengah Pondok Upeh today was a more joyous one.
“We hope it will help to create a merrier atmosphere for those who join the function and help strengthen relationship among all races from Balik Pulau,” said Bakthiar, who is also Deputy Tourism, Art & Culture Minister.
“Balik Pulau is presently safer, greener and also more romantic with its vast greenery and natural environment.”
At the open house, children below 12 years of age were also given ‘duit raya’.
The crowd present was also entertained to a collection of Hari Raya medley.
Also present was Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.
