CM Chow surprises many with calendar gift

IT was a sweet surprise for the many business operators, traders, hawkers, passersby, and restaurant and coffee shop patrons when Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow distributed calendars at Campbell Street and Chulia Street in George Town today.

As he gave them the calenders, Chow also wished many of them a very happy and prosperous New Year.

Many recipients took the opportunity to have photographs taken with the Chief Minister, who is also the Padang Kota assemblyman.

Two patrons at one of the restaurants in Chulia Street posing with Chow after receiving calendars from him during his walkabout.

Some of the elderly folk waiting for public buses in Penang Road too were also taken by surprise when Chow handed them the calendars.

Helping Chow to distribute the calendars were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Padang Kota Service Centre head Dr Tan Kim Hooi, Padang Kota Service Centre personal assistant Johnny Chee and staff members, Penang Island City Council councillor Gerald Mak and Village Community Management Council (MPKK) members.

Chew (left) responded by giving Chow a coconut drink after receiving a calendar from a member of Chow’s team.

Coconut drink seller Chew Yew Huat was delighted to receive a calendar from a volunteer of Chow’s team and he reciprocated by cutting a young coconut for Chow to have a drink.

“This is my small gesture of saying thanks to him. I remember he also came to distribute calendars to us after winning the general elections in 2018,” said Chew, who runs his coconut stall at Chulia Street.
