THE caretaker Penang government is committed to realising the digitalisation and smart city initiatives in the state.

In line with this vision, caretaker state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo announced that the country’s first geospatial data centre would be set up in the state.

“The 3D lab will be set up at Level 11 in Komtar. It will be the first-of-its-kind centre managed by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

“Its purpose is to drive the development of the ‘Smart Digital Twin’ (SDT) initiative and facilitate the gathering of scientific data.

“We are moving towards smart city direction and we will expand it to Seberang Perai as well,” he said at a press conference at IOC centre in Komtar today.

Jagdeep said the centre would assist the state in its data collection effort.

“Our cashless system has also experienced overwhelming success.

“All these add to our efforts in promoting Penang to become a smart city,” he said.

Jagdeep added the theme for the digital transformation was ‘We are Virtual Family’.

He also said his officers would be presenting papers at a conference at San Diego in the United States (US) next month.

Jagdeep described it as a remarkable achievement.

Also present was caretaker state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
