IT was a proud day for Asas Dunia Berhad (ADB) managing director Chan Fook Sun, 51, who was bestowed a Datukship in recognition of his contributions to housing development and social work.
Fook Sun, together with his brothers, including Datuk Seri Jerry Chan, former president of the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) Penang, has guided the company to greater heights since it was founded by their late father, Tony Chan, in 1982.

Since its incorporation, the company has completed over 24,000 units of mixed-development projects, comprising residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Additionally, ADB has delivered approximately 7,600 units of low-cost housing across various locations such as Sungai Bakap, Simpang Ampat, Tasek, Jawi, Nibong Tebal, Machang Bubok, Juru, and Permatang Tinggi in Seberang Perai, as well as Bukit Jambul on the island.
“I’m grateful to the state for this award in recognition of our family’s contribution to housing development and the social work that we’ve undertaken.
“I’m deeply humbled, and I share this honour with my brothers for the great deal of work they have put in,” said Fook Sun with a smile.
He was also instrumental in ADB’s donation of eight acres of land, valued at RM17.5 million, for the construction of SMJK Jit Sin II, SPS (Jit Sin SPS), in 2010.
The school was officially opened in 2019. In addition to the land donation, ADB has contributed approximately RM2 million to Jit Sin SPS since 2017. These contributions have supported the upgrading of school facilities and amenities, as well as the construction of a new school entrance arch.
“My father was very supportive of education. As a tribute to him, the Jit Sin school hall was named after him,” Fook Sun said today, which coincidentally marked the third anniversary of Tony Chan’s passing.
Over the years, ADB has been active in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, making annual donations to various charitable organisations, schools, and sports clubs.
Some of the beneficiaries include MBSP Puspanita, Persatuan Kebajikan Pekerja-Pekerja Islam MPSP (PERMAI), Persatuan Dermawan Jishan Bukit Mertajam, Kelab Ping Pong Global Sports Solution, Kelab Berbasikal Bukit Mertajam, Kelab Bolasepak Bukit Tambun, Persatuan Kebajikan Sukan dan Sosial, Penang Hospice Society, the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), and MBSP Earth Day programs, among others.
