HONG KONG-based multi-disciplinary artist Sim Chan is set to debut his first-ever solo exhibition in Malaysia with a month-long showcase in Penang.
Blank Canvas will host The Infinite-land (Penang) from Dec 6 to Dec 29, marking a new chapter in the artist’s highly acclaimed “Infinite-land” series, which drew strong public interest during its run in Tainan last year.
Supported by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC), the Penang edition introduces new artworks inspired by Malaysian culture and the local environment.
Sim said he was thrilled to finally present the series to Malaysian audiences.
“I hope Penangites will be able to spot familiar elements found in their daily life,” he said.
To prepare for the exhibition, Sim also collaborated with local residents, who helped complete several components of the showcase, giving this edition a distinctly Penang flavour.
Curator Kobe Ko said the exhibition explores the concept of miniature worlds coming together to form a theme-park-like dreamscape
.
“Sim Chan likens this wonderland to the world we inhabit, guiding us to reflect upon our routine daily lives with playful ease,” he said.
The exhibition highlights three key series, namely The “In Endlessness”, The “Wandering”, and The “WindowScape”.

Adding to the theme-park atmosphere are interactive features such as claw and gacha machines that offer visitors a chance to win actual artworks by Sim.
An additional token station, styled after an old pushcart, adds a nostalgic local touch.
The Infinite-land (Penang) will be held at Blank Canvas, 85 Lorong Soo Hong, George Town, and runs from Thursday to Monday, 12pm to 7pm, until Dec 29.
Details and ticketing information are available on the gallery’s social media platforms.
