THE Juru–Sungai Dua Elevated Highway Project, which comprises several construction packages aimed at easing traffic congestion, officially commenced work on Package One today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow shared that this update is based on a statement released by PLUS Malaysia Berhad today.

According to the announcement, Package One of the project involves upgrading the roundabout at KM135.15-KM135.4 of the East-West Elevated Intersection (Butterworth-Kulim Expressway).

“It also includes the construction of a new flyover at Jalan Tun Hussein Onn (KM133.5-KM134.5). Both works are scheduled to be carried out over a period of 24 months.

“These do not even involve the actual construction of the elevated highway yet,” Chow said during a press conference in Komtar today.

He said the groundbreaking ceremony for the project is expected to take place this November and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“This project, valued at a few billion ringgits, can be divided into multiple packages. However, we have not been provided with the specific details. During an earlier briefing session, only the preliminary design was shared with us.

“As for the state government, we are extremely pleased to see site work already underway, and we will await further announcements regarding the remaining packages,” Chow added.
