Komtar Walk can boost social and economic developments in the northeast district, says Komtar rep

KOMTAR Walk has been transformed into a cool place for gathering and socialising.

Strategically located in the heart of George Town, Komtar Walk is also a perfect location to hold events.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng commended the efforts by Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and PDC Setia Urus Sdn Bhd.

“It is important to attract more people to visit Komtar Walk. Visitors can dine at these cool eateries.

“We hope to continue to revitalise Komtar Walk.

“Our efforts can contribute to the social and economic developments of the state,” Teh said in his speech before opening the F&B business lots in Komtar Walk today.

Visitors are spoilt for choice when they visit Komtar Walk. They can patronise Mookata, Saigon Sisters, Roti Bakar Hutton Lane, Donna Bistro, Kekartel, and Qah-wa Cafe.

ZUS Coffee is scheduled to begin its operations in June this year.

Recollecting the upgrading works of Komtar Walk, PDC deputy chief executive officer Roslan Hassan said the upgrading works were divided into two phases.

“Phase One, which was completed on March 19 in 2021, involved demolition works of the previous F&B outlets.

“Some minor repair works were done while the original roof was maintained.

“Phase Two, which included the construction of seven F&B lots, parking lots and landscaping, began on Sept 9 in 2021 and was completed in February 2022.

“We have also installed canopies above the F&B lots to mitigate the bad weather,” Roslan said during his speech.

It is learnt that a total of RM3.237 million was spent on the demolition, upgrading and canopy installation works.

In a related development, Roslan said that PDC Setia Urus was planning to set up more lots to accommodate other relevant businesses.

“PDC Setia Urus is committed to attracting the younger generation to Komtar Walk. We want to make it vibrant with more attractive business operations,” he added.

Also present was Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi.
