THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has announced the winners of its annual lucky draw programme, with 95 assessment taxpayers walking away with prizes as a token of appreciation for their timely payments.
The draw was conducted digitally and streamed live from Komtar via MBPP’s official Facebook page, with winners’ names announced in real time.
The event was attended by MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, and several councillors, including Tan Soo Siang, Benji Ang Ming Quan, Chen Wooi Teong, Lee Wei Seang, Mohamad Khairani Abd Shukor, Ooi Mei Mei, and Mohamed Yusoff Mohamed Noor.
According to Rajendran, the lucky draw was open to ratepayers who had settled one year’s payment in full and had no arrears. A total of 57,002 eligible players were shortlisted for the lucky draw.

“The total value of the lucky draw prizes amounts to RM30,000, featuring items such as the E8S PRO electric motorbike, Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphone, laptop, Xiaomi 13T Pro, smartwatch, gold bar, earbuds, and 85 e-wallet prizes on the Pearl One Touch Penang App, each worth between RM100 and RM300,” he said.
Rajendran noted that the programme, launched in 2014, has become an annual event aimed at recognising and encouraging timely taxpayer contributions.
“For this year, MBPP targets a total collection of RM256 million from assessment tax. As of May, the council has collected 48% of that target,” Rajendran added.
During the event, Rajendran personally drew lots to determine the top five winners, while the councillors took turns drawing lots for the remaining prizes.
The first prize is the E8S PRO Electric Motorbike, second prize is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Smartphone, third prize is the Xiaomi 13T Pro, fourth prize is the HP 245 Silver Turbo Laptop with accessories, and fifth prize is a 1 gram gold bar.
