IT was a historical day for SJK (T) Mak Mandin, Butterworth as it marked the new school term from this year by having only one session instead of two previously.

School principal M. Bhaskar revealed that the one session was made possible as the school underwent an expansion.

The additional building, which was completed in 2016, had technical issues and was only operational from this year.

“Today our dream is realised and pupils are placed in the new building at last.

“The school has a total of 840 pupils. The new building is equipped with 12 classrooms.

“Other than the classrooms, it has one library, one counseling room, one 21st century learning room, a canteen and so forth. Pupils from Year Four until Year Six are utilising the new building classrooms.

“We want our kids to have the best educational experience and that’s why we have equipped the classrooms with modern technology.

“We want our students to get ready to face the industrial revoultion 4.0 (IR 4.0) without being left behind in this society,” said Bhaskar.

The school today received 146 Year One pupils this year with many of them paying close attention to their teachers.

Perhaps even more excited than the pupils were some parents who were seen waiting outside the classrooms watching their children’s every movement.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr. P. Ramasamy, who played an instrumental role in helping to revive the said building, also visited the school.

“It’s good news for SJK(T) Mak Mandin as they started to operate the ‘one session’ and ‘new building’ in conjunction with the New Year.

“I hope the new building expansion will be beneficial for the teachers and students as well.

Ramasamy added that he would help the school obtain a vacant piece of land, which is about 1.1 acre behind the school, from the state government.

He commended various parties such as the school principal, teachers, parents, Penang Education Department, Parents and Teachers Association for playing their respective roles in the application process.
