THE Penang government will continue championing sports tourism.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai made the remark at the closing of the Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2025 in Batu Kawan today, expressing his satisfaction with the event’s success.

“Events like PBIM bring global visibility, boost our economy, and position Penang as a destination where culture, endurance, and international sports meet. A marathon event like PBIM is like a name card for a city. Every great city will have a great marathon event,” Wong, who is also the organising chairman, told a large turnout before the prize presentation.
He congratulated all runners for completing one of Southeast Asia’s most demanding marathon routes, praising their resilience and determination.

Wong noted that the Penang Bridge route challenged participants both physically and mentally, with humidity, wind and the bridge’s incline testing even experienced runners.
“Completing PBIM is an achievement beyond medals. It reflects discipline and strong mental strength,” he added.

Wong also thanked the organising team, volunteers, medical personnel, enforcement agencies and event partners for their tireless efforts in ensuring the marathon ran smoothly.

After their races, participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including free massages, ice foot baths, instant photos, and games such as Beat the Bar and Flip the Bottle, with medal engraving also available for a fee.

The event concluded with a lucky draw, featuring a Proton S70 and two Honda scooters.
Beyond the prizes, Wong said it was the friendly atmosphere and sporting spirit displayed by the diverse crowd that made PBIM 2025 truly meaningful — a reward for months of planning and preparation.
