THE Penang government is monitoring the red tide phenomenon in the state and will be engaging the relevant agencies before taking further action.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said he was notified of an incident in Teluk Bahang, where fish were reportedly beached along Monkey Beach in Teluk Bahang.

“We will get more information from the relevant agencies associated with the environment and fisheries before taking the next step,” he replied to a journalist at Wawasan Open University (WOU) today. Chow was present to officiate the Special Scholarship Sponsorship Ceremony by WOU for Penangites.

Separately, Chow said 40 Penang state assemblymen would be taking their oath of office tomorrow (Aug 29).

When asked who would be proposed as the State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Chow said it would be known tomorrow.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz has been considered to be appointed the Deputy Speaker of the Penang Legislative Assembly.
