Penang Hill through the eyes of talented artists

FIFTY-TWO amazing art masterpieces by 20 talented local artists are now on display at the Penang Legislative Assembly exhibition hall in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill Railway.

 

The art exhibition, themed Vivid Penang Hill, resulted from the collaboration between Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) and Penang Art Society.

PHC general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng said it was the first time the two organisations collaborated to put together the art exhibition.

 

“The Vivid Penang Hill art exhibition stands as a testament to the Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak’s visionary idea to capture the beautiful scenes of Penang Hill through the lens of local artists.

 

“This aspiration has shaped and brought to life this collaborative project. We extend our deepest appreciation to the Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri for his leadership and for inspiring this exhibition which has enriched our community and celebrates the beauty of Penang Hill.

 

“We are indeed honoured to partner with the Penang Art Society to promote our Penang-based artists through our beloved Penang Hill as the focal point,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony at the Penang Legislative Assembly exhibition hall today.

 

The exhibition features the works by Alex Leong Yim Kuan, Alice Loo Peak Yean, Anne Uh Meil Ting, Anthony Cheah Leong Chow, Apple Yong Seow Ping, Datuk Chong Hon Fatt, Elain Wong Ee Lin, Frankie Chin Swee Ching, Hwang Sock Tsu, Khoo Cheang Jin, and Koay Haw Wah.

 

Others include Koay Shao Peng, Lee Eng Beng, Liau Sin Fah, Lim Jee Yuan, Mohd Shaparel Salleh, Pang Kooi Kee, Sally Lee Hoi Har, Sim Saw Im @ Shen Ying, and Tim Teh Ming Yang.

 

The exhibition was launched by Ahmad Fuzi.

Cheok said the Vivid Penang Hill art exhibition was a celebration of arts and talents, expressed through the creative works of local artists.

 

He also thanked Penang Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang for allowing the art exhibition to be held at the prestigious venue. Cheok also appreciated the artists for their inspiring artworks.

 

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said Penang Hill has always been an irresistible draw for both local and international visitors.

“This art exhibition further elevates its allure. It is a showcase of local talent that sparks a deep sense of curiosity and appreciation for Penang Hill,” he said.

 

Also present were Penang Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz, Penang Art Society president Datuk Ch’ng Huck Theng, The Habitat Penang Hill managing director Allen Tan, Malaysian Association of Hotel (MAH) Penang chapter chairman Datuk Tony Goh, and Penang Institute executive director Datuk Dr Ooi Kee Beng.

 

The art exhibition is open from Dec 13 to 31 (10am to 5pm) at the Penang Legislative Assembly exhibition hall.

 

Admission is free.
