Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying, who graced the opening ceremony of the exhibition last weekend, highlighted that the Orchid Festival is more than just an exhibition.

Lim said it has grown into a driver of tourism, a platform for conservation education, and a celebration of Penang’s identity as a city where heritage and green living coexist in harmony.

“We celebrate not only the splendour of orchids, but also the creativity, commitment, and collaboration that bring this festival to life. Orchids are among nature’s finest creations resilient, elegant, and diverse.

“They remind us that even in the toughest environments, beauty can bloom when nurtured with patience and care,” Lim added.

Lim also applauded the Penang Botanic Gardens Department, the Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS), community partners, and the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this grand event possible.

She said their dedication and hard work have been instrumental in ensuring the success and splendour of the show.

Lim, who is also the Deputy Finance Minister, announced an allocation of RM20,000 to support the continued success of the Penang Orchid Festival.

“We hope this contribution will sustain the festival’s growth, encourage wider public participation, and inspire the next generation to appreciate and protect the natural treasures around us,” she said.

Lim also expressed her gratitude to the FOMOS for introducing a new orchid species from Thailand named Dendrobium Lim Kit Siang, in honour of her father, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang’s contributions to Penang and Malaysia, at the exhibition in September last year (2024).
