Promoting Penang via art interaction programme

  • PENANG State Department of Culture and Arts, in collaboration with the Penang State Education Department and the Parents and Community Association (PIBK) of SMK Dato Haji Abdul Kadir, organised an Art Interaction Programme on Sept 22 at SMK Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir in Kepala Batas.

The purpose of the programme is to share ideas, expertise and create opportunities for local communities in the field of entrepreneurship, art and culture, highlighting the noble values of society and becoming one of the elements of attracting the younger generation.

State Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture & Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, who officiated the opening ceremony, believes various programmes can be planned to make Penang a unique attraction as well as to market cultural heritage products in the eyes of the world.

“Ethnic diversity and cultural diversity in the country are seen as being able to make Penang a unique tourist attraction to visit and to learn cultural values found in Penang.

“The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MOTAC) through the National Department for Culture and Arts, also implements cultural activities in schools.

Among the objectives of this programme is to provide opportunities for the participants to demonstrate their talents and skills learned during the course in Art Guidance activities.

“In addition, several new and unique programmes will be and are being implemented by the State Government in collaboration with the private sector either directly or indirectly,” said Yeoh.

He also said cultural empowerment continues to be an important agenda for the government in realizing Penang as a cultural attraction hub.
