State considering a parking space near Pulau Tikus Market

THE Penang government is mulling to build a new parking space near Pulau Tikus Market for market-goers.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo (PH-Datok Keramat) said the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is now studying the suitability of having the parking space in the area.

“The state, through MBPP, has no plan yet to upgrade or rebuild the Pulau Tikus Market.

“However, maintenance works and monitoring are still being carried out from time to time to make sure the market is operating in a smooth manner,” he said when replying to an oral question raised by Lee Chun Kit (PH-Pulau Tikus).

Lee had earlier asked whether the state was considering to speed up the market upgrading process and also whether the state was planning to have a new parking space nearby the market to cater to the number of market-goers.

Jagdeep, who was also posed an oral question by Azrul Mahathir Aziz (PH-Bayan Lepas) who had wanted to know about the construction plan for a market in Teluk Kumbar, said MBPP is now calling for Request for Proposal (RFP) to build the market and an affordable housing scheme.

“MBPP will continue to study the residents’ needs and wants after the RFP for the Teluk Kumbar Market is done,” he said.
