THE annual Tanjong Mid-Autumn Carnival has grown into an important cultural celebration that not only unites communities but also enhances Penang’s tourism, says Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying.
Speaking at the lantern lighting ceremony themed ‘Blossoms Under the Full Moon’ at Armenian Park in George Town tonight, Lim described the celebration as one of the most meaningful traditional events as it represents harmony, reunion and togetherness.

“This is more than a festival of lanterns and lights. It allows the younger generation to experience the beauty of our culture and ensures our traditions are passed down for generations to come,” she said.
The event, first introduced in 2019 and revived in 2023 after the pandemic, is now in its fourth year.
Lim thanked the Kampung Kolam Community Management Committee as the main organiser, along with other relevant bodies, for supporting the event.
She stressed that the carnival, which will continue for a month, is not just a one-night affair.

“I sincerely hope visitors will treat this as a must-visit destination and share Penang’s Mid-Autumn celebration through social media platforms like Instagram and Xiaohongshu, which can help us showcase our unique culture to the world,” she said.
Lim also announced a RM50,000 allocation for the event, expressing hope that the Mid-Autumn Carnival would continue to serve as a platform to unite people.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said the Tanjong Mid-Autumn Carnival reflects cultural continuity and community spirit, bringing people together across races and backgrounds.
He thanked the organisers, volunteers and sponsors for their efforts in growing the festival into one of Penang’s important cultural events since 2019.
“This year’s carnival will feature performances, workshops, and community showcases on Sept 28, with free admission,” he said.

He expressed hope that the celebration would strengthen family bonds, community unity and remain a cherished part of Penang’s cultural calendar.
The official opening of the carnival will take place on Sept 28 and will be officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
