Upcoming round of LEAP2023 to take place at Gurney Paragon

THE second session of the ‘Liga Esports Antara Parlimen’ (LEAP) is set to take place at Gurney Paragon on Oct 21 from 10am to 7pm.

Launched earlier this year, this interparliamentary eSports league is being collaborated between Kakuchopurei, a renowned Malaysian independent gaming website, and the offices of Members of Parliament.

For this upcoming session, Kakuchopurei will be partnering with the office of Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid to host the event, known as the Bukit Bendera Preliminaries.

LEAP’s first session, held in collaboration with the offices of Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, received promising turnouts.

Syerleena says the Bukit Bendera Preliminaries of LEAP2023 will serve to strengthen the communities within her constituency and beyond.

Syerleena expressed hope that LEAP2023 would not just be merely a competition, but would also serve as an instrument to strengthen communities within her constituency and beyond.

Similar to the first series, three gaming categories will be introduced: EA Sports FC 2024, Street Fighter 6, and Mobile Legends Bang Bang.

EA Sports FC 2024 and Street Fighter 6 will be played by a single player (1v1) with the champion in each category receiving RM500 in prize money, while Mobile Legends Bang Bang will be played in a group of 5 (5v5) with the overall champion receiving RM1,000 in prize money.

Fazri says career talks and demonstration of gameplay for newcomers will also be held during the tournament.

Earlier today, Fazri Nuha, head of event at Kakuchopurei, announced that the second season of LEAP2023 will take place in Penang for the first time. This announcement was made at a press conference at St Jo’s Chapel Hall, Gurney Paragon

Interested participants can find more information about eligibility on Kakuchorupei’s website and YB Syerleena’s social media accounts.

In addition to the competitions, the event will feature career talks from the gaming industry and demonstrations of gameplay for newcomers and those interested in pursuing career opportunities in gaming.

The press conference was also attended by Teh Kang Ze, the press secretary to Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo;  Loo Ai Leen, Kakuchorupei head of marketing communications; and Oong Ren Jie, Kakuchorupei senior marketing communication executive.

Esports tournaments have been gaining global popularity, even making their mark at prestigious events like the ongoing Asian Games.

Just last week, Malaysia clinched a silver and a bronze medal in Arena of Valor event and Dota 2 respectively.
