WITH the opening of Vivax-Metrotech’s manufacturing facility in Batu Kawan, 175 high-skilled jobs have been created in Penang.
Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo shared the news at the opening ceremony today, emphasising the state government’s commitment to attracting more industry players to Penang.
“The company’s decision to expand in Malaysia, and more specifically in Penang, was made after a comprehensive evaluation.
“This reflects our strengths as an investment destination, a skilled talent pool, a strong focus on innovation, and a strategic geographic location.
“Penang already enjoys the presence of investors from all over the world and will continue to welcome more and facilitate what they need,” he added.
Vivax-Metrotech is an international manufacturer of equipment for buried utility locating, fibre-optic cable locating, ferrous metal detection, and coating analysis.
Its products are also used for ACVG surveys on cathodically protected pipes, detecting sheath-to-ground faults on cables, inspecting the interior of pipes and ducts, and mapping buried utilities.

Jagdeep also shared that Penang recorded a total of RM6.7 billion in approved manufacturing investment in the first quarter of the year. These came from 36 approved projects and are expected to create 4,577 new jobs.
Vivax-Metrotech Corporation president Mark Drew expressed his gratitude to the state government, the ministry, and all state stakeholders for their support and goodwill.
Drew also expressed hope that with the opening of Vivax’s facility in Penang, the state would strengthen its position in the inspection equipment manufacturing sector.
