A TOTAL of 463 students from the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency received the ‘Excellent Student Award’, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to recognising and celebrating academic excellence at the grassroots level.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who presented the awards at the Holiday Inn & Suites today, said the recognition was a significant gesture to acknowledge the students’ hard work and achievements.

Chow said the cash incentives for students with outstanding academic results not only ease their financial burden but also serve as motivation to continue striving for excellence.

“I also want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt congratulations to the 463 students from the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency (session 2024), which includes Perai, Bukit Tambun, and Bukit Tengah, on your achievement.

“You represent the dreams of your parents, the joy of your educators, and the bright future of Penang,” Chow said.

He noted that the presentation of trophies and certificates to each recipient reflected the state government’s commitment to celebrating academic success comprehensively and inclusively, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.

“This initiative demonstrates our belief that every student who puts in the effort deserves proper recognition on their journey toward excellence,” he added.

Chow also emphasised that such efforts nor only honour outstanding students but also inspire and motivate others to continue pursuing academic success.

“Initiatives like this deserve praise, as they signify our commitment to quality and comprehensive education,” he said.

Under the Penang2030 vision, Chow said the Penang government continues to prioritise quality education, social inclusivity and human capital development as key pillars in building a progressive and sustainable state.

The Excellent Student Award offers incentives ranging from RM100 for outstanding primary school students, RM150 for lower secondary, RM300 for SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) achievers, and RM500 for top STPM (Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia) scorers.

Parents S. Gopal and J. Malani were filled with joy and pride as their son, G. Shivaneshvaran, a former Standard 6 student from SJKT Ladang Valdor, was among the recipients of the ‘Excellent Student Award’.
