FOR the first time, around 500 women are expected to take part in the Women’s Only Society (WOS) Chasing Sunrise Run 2025, which will be held on Sept 14 in the scenic village of Kampung Terus, Kubang Semang.

State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said the 5km fun run aims to recognise women’s contributions while encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.

“The scenic paddy fields and village views will offer a refreshing experience for the participants. This event serves as a platform to empower women and bring them together in a meaningful way,” she said during a press conference in Komtar today.

Lim, who oversees women’s development in the state, pointed out that many women tend to prioritise their families to the extent of neglecting their own health.

“That is why I believe this inaugural run will motivate women to take care of their well-being and stay inspired.

“Held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day period, this event will also promote unity and togetherness, regardless of race or religion,” she added.

Children are allowed to participate while husbands accompanying their wives can opt to wait for them at the venue.

Lim thanked the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) for collaborating with relevant authorities to organise the event, stressing the importance of taking the first step toward a healthier lifestyle.

PWDC chief executive officer Datuk Ong Bee Leng expressed her appreciation to WOS for inviting the agency to be part of the event.

“We discovered WOS through social media, especially TikTok. They have built their community in a progressive and impactful way,” she said.

Ong added that the run would encourage women to step out of their comfort zones and participate in a supportive community activity.

Also present was WOS founder Ira Shahira Mohamad Azizi.
