A BRAND-NEW Proton S70 awaits one lucky finisher at this year’s Aspen–Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon 2025 (PBIM 2025) — marking the first time the event is offering such a prestigious car as its grand lucky draw prize.
The prize, sponsored by Proton, is open exclusively to race finishers as part of the national carmaker’s partnership with PBIM 2025, where Proton also joins as the official car partner and title sponsor of the 10-kilometre category.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow described the collaboration as a meaningful milestone that adds excitement and national pride to the internationally recognised event.

“Proton’s collaboration represents national pride and strong support for Penang’s efforts to host world-class events. This generous gesture rewards perseverance and adds prestige to PBIM 2025,” Chow said during a media conference at Komtar today.
He also expressed appreciation to Aspen Group, Klippa, and IKEA Batu Kawan for their continued partnership, noting that their involvement has strengthened the marathon’s branding and international participation.
“Their renewed partnership reflects a shared vision to position Penang as a hub for world-class events and community pride,” he said, while also thanking the State Tourism and Creative Economy Office (PETACE) for coordinating the event with other agencies.
Chow added that PBIM has evolved beyond being merely a sporting event.
“It continues to be more than a race. It is a platform that unites communities, businesses, and visitors from around the world, showcasing Penang’s vibrancy and collaborative spirit,” he said.
As of now, over 20,000 participants have registered across the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10-kilometre run categories. Registration will close at midnight on Oct 15.
Providing the latest breakdown, State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said 3,924 runners have registered for the Full Marathon, 9,010 for the Half Marathon, and 7,115 for the 10km run.
“We have participants from 56 countries, with the highest numbers from Indonesia, Singapore, and China. About 45% are from Penang, 48% from other Malaysian states, and 7% are international runners,” Wong said.
He noted that Proton’s involvement brings symbolic value to the marathon.

“The Proton eMAS will serve as the official lead car for route coordination, while the S70 lucky draw prize adds excitement across all categories,” he said.
Wong also announced that several new features will be introduced this year to enhance the overall race experience, including an expanded layout, clearer category zones, and a structured wave release system for smoother starts.
The Race Village will also see upgrades such as more shaded seating, hydration points, and medical and recovery areas to improve comfort and flow for participants after completing their runs.
The Penang Bridge International Marathon 2025 will take place on Dec 14, with runners from around the world expected to join the iconic race.
Proton head of sales Ong Chee Woi thanked the state and the organisers for giving Proton the opportunity to be part of this renowned event.
“I am a Penangite, and I am proud to be part of this remarkable annual sporting event, set to take place at the end of the year,” he said.
Among those present were Aspen Group managing director Anilarasu Amaranaza and Klippa representative Jo Saw.
