ENFORCEMENT authorities have been urged to take strong action against factory bus operators and drivers who continuously disregard the law and park factory buses in residential areas.

Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin said various efforts and initiatives have been taken over the years which saw fewer buses parked illegally in residential areas.

“However, there are still some factory bus operators and drivers who are stubborn and refused to abide by the law.

“These factory buses must be parked at the depot or the designated areas when not in use. They are not supposed to be parked in residential areas.

“These buses cause traffic disturbance and inconvenience to the people. Bus operators can be punished under Section 22 (3) of the APAD 2010 which carries a fine of not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM500,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both.

“While we appreciate the services and contributions of factory bus operators to the state’s economic growth, they must also abide by the existing law and regulations,” Yeoh, who is also the Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman, told a media conference at Dewan MPKK, Persiaran Paya Terubong 2, Taman Sri Relau, today.
