Bandar Baru Jelutong MPKK seeks more parking spaces

THE Bandar Baru Jelutong Village Community Management Council (MPKK) has submitted a proposal to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to gazette an empty space at Solok Sungai Pinang 6 for parking purposes.

Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim’s personal assistant, Yeap Poh Looi said the move was an effort to resolve the parking woes in the neighbourhood.

“The Bandar Baru MPKK submitted the proposal to MBPP in May.

“Previously, they were some complaints from the residents and shop lot owners in this neighbourhood about motorists reserving the parking spots.

“The MBPP will require some time to turn the place into a parking space.

“Once the parking lot gets gazetted, there will be no more disputes among the people here as whoever finds a vacant parking spot, can park their vehicles there and pay the parking fee,” Yeap said during a press conference today.

Apart from that, Yeap said the council has also provided other parking space for the residents in the Solok Sungai Pinang neighbourhood following the request by the Bandar Baru Jelutong MPKK earlier this year.

“The council has provided more parking space for the residents here by gazetting the empty space at the other two lanes, namely Solok Pinang Sungai 1 and Solok Sungai Pinang 3.

“Two days ago, an opposition party claimed that the Bandar Baru Jelutong MPKK is not helping to settle the car park woes faced by the residents.

“It is a baseless claim; the Bandar Baru Jelutong MPKK has been actively involved in making this neighbourhood a better place,” she added.
