CALLING for book lovers or book hunters in Penang! Get ready! The highly anticipated Big Bad Wolf book sale has returned to the state.

Running from today (Feb 26) until March 8 at Level 4 of Gurney Paragon Mall, the event offers a vast selection of titles at highly affordable prices. From children’s favourites and bestselling reads to hidden literary gems, there is something for every reader.

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, who officiated the opening ceremony today, said the event is more than just a book sale.

“It is a celebration of access to knowledge. It is a celebration of ideas. It is a celebration of opportunity. Bringing over one million books with discounts of up to 95%, the book fiesta runs for 10 days with free admission for everyone.

“The return of Big Bad Wolf during this festive season also adds a refreshing and meaningful dimension to our celebration calendar. Today, we are celebrating abundance and not just the abundance of prosperity, but the abundance of books, imagination and possibilities,” Wong said in his speech.

According to Wong, Big Bad Wolf began with a simple yet powerful mission to make books accessible to all, regardless of background.

“Over the years, it has grown into a global literacy movement travelling across countries and cities. Penang is proud to continue being part of that journey.

“When you buy a book, you support creativity. When you encourage your child to read, you invest in human capital. Tourism today is about creating diverse and meaningful experiences, and Big Bad Wolf reflects how retail, education and culture can come together to create positive economic and social impact.

“Events like this attract families, students and visitors from within and beyond the state while reinforcing Penang’s commitment to lifelong learning and creativity,” he said.

Also present was Penang State Public Library Corporation (PPAPP) director Norlina Ahmad.
