Bukit Gelugor MP and Air Itam rep give out back-to-school vouchers to needy students

SOME underprivileged school-going children in Air Itam will start the new school term next year with new school items – thanks to Air Itam elected representative Joseph Ng, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh and the zakat contributions.

A total of 405 vouchers worth RM77 each will be distributed to the deserving students in the Air Itam constituency.

Ng said he contributed 105 vouchers while Ramkarpal contributed 200 vouchers. One hundred vouchers were from the zakat contributions.

“The vouchers can be used to obtain school uniforms, school shoes and socks.

“We want to help ease the financial burden of needy families, especially during this trying period,” he said during the voucher handover ceremony at SJKC Chiao Nan today.

Ng said the representatives from selected schools would be facilitating the distribution of vouchers to the students.

“Three hundred vouchers will be presented to SJKC Chiao Nan, SK Sri Aman, SK Air Itam, SJKC Sin Kang, SJKC Chung Hwa Cawangan A, SJKC Chung Hwa Cawangan B, SJKC Kong Min Pusat, SJKC Kong Min Cawangan Satu, SK Seri Indah and SK Batu Lancang.

“The remaining 105 vouchers will be given to seven Village Community Management Councils (MPKKs) in the Air Itam constituency (15 vouchers to each MPKK). The MPKKs will then give out the vouchers to the needy children,” he said.

Ng said the programme was initiated in 2018 and they contributed 270 vouchers last year.
