THE vibrant landscape of Iconic Hill in Paya Terubong came alive this morning as 60 children with movement disabilities, accompanied by nearly 600 volunteers, took part in the Climb to Change a Life 3.0 programme, an inspiring initiative aimed at empowerment, inclusion, and shared humanity.
Upon reaching the hilltop, participants engaged in a series of interactive games designed to foster joyful connections.

The activities encouraged children, their families, and volunteers to bond, experience collective joy, and build resilience and self-confidence in a lively and supportive environment.

Now in its third edition, the programme is spearheaded by the Hui Yin Seh Association and continues to promote inclusivity through meaningful community efforts.
Hui Yin Seh Association chairman Khiah Hock Leong said the event’s purpose was simple yet profound which is to allow children with disabilities to experience the joy and challenge of a hill climb.
“These children come from various charitable organisations across Penang. For our friends with movement disabilities, every step up the hill is a triumph over adversity. And for every volunteer here today, your effort and sweat embody understanding, empathy, and unwavering support.
“This initiative is rooted in the Buddhist value of unconditional compassion and shared suffering. Today is more than just a charitable outing, it is a heartfelt message of unity, where we embrace diversity, walk together, and build a world grounded in love and acceptance,” he said in his speech.
The event was graced by Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen and Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze, who praised the association for its commitment to meaningful social causes.
Gooi, in his address, applauded the efforts of the children, their families, and the dedicated volunteers.

“This programme aims to empower children with movement disabilities through experiential activities like hill climbing.
“It fosters family bonding, volunteerism, and lasting memories while also promoting societal change and awareness about inclusivity.
“It aligns beautifully with the Penang2030 vision of A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation,” Gooi said.
