CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, is adamant in his mission to drive the coalition to victory in the coming state election.

“That is my hope if you ask me now. We can take the next action after winning the state election,” he replied to a journalist when asked about his hope as the state PH chairman and the Chief Minister.

Replying to a news article that three assemblymen were unhappy with his performance as Penang Chief Minister, Chow said he was not aware of any assemblymen who were unhappy with his performance.

“I do not know who they are as they did not express their unhappiness to me,” he said.

When questioned about the Penang State Constitution and the possibility of former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s return as the state Chief Minister, Chow replied that the Penang State Constitution was amended in 2018, limiting the tenure of the Chief Minister to two terms.

“The amendment, by inserting an additional sub-clause, states that ‘a member of the Legislative Assembly may be appointed Chief Minister if they have not at any time held the position for two terms’.

“That is the amendment to the Penang State Constitution, and it is public knowledge,” he said.

Later, 10 Penang DAP ordinary assemblymen (excluding the Chief Minister, political secretary, and state executive council members) jointly issued a statement on the DAP Pulau Pinang Facebook page, attesting that they have not spoken to the news portal about the published news article.

“The article is malicious and unfair by not mentioning who the three state assemblypersons are, thereby, putting all the 10 ordinary state assemblypersons from Penang under unnecessary public suspicion,” the statement read.

The statement was undersigned by Lim Guan Eng (Air Putih), Lim Siew Khim (Sungai Pinang), Jason H’ng (Jawi), Heng Lee Lee (Berapit), Joseph Ng (Air Itam), Ong Ah Teong (Batu Lancang), Daniel Gooi (Pengkalan Kota), Satees Muniandy (Bagan Dalam), Syerleena Abdul Rashid (Seri Delima), and Chris Lee (Pulau Tikus).
