Coming together to hold blood donation drive at Gurney Paragon Mall on Sept 16

THE MPKK Persiaran Gurney, in collaboration with St John Ambulance of Malaysia (North East Area, Penang) and Penang Hospital (Department of Transfusion Medicine), will hold a blood donation campaign at Gurney Paragon Mall on Sept 16.

MPKK Persiaran Gurney chairperson Ooi Su Ching said the event would be held at the mall’s St Jo’s (Level 1), an open-air area, from 10am to 4pm in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebration.

Ooi says members of the public are encouraged to come forward to donate blood for a good cause.

“We hope members of the public, including those who have not donated blood before, will turn up to support the event for a good cause.

“We’ll have sufficient manpower to ensure SOPs are strictly followed. Goody bags, including a Covid-19 Antigen Detection Kit and two mini mooncakes, will be given to blood donors as a token of appreciation,” Ooi, who is a businesswoman, said.

She also thanked the service centre of Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit, Leong Yin Pastry and Lao Char Bor Bakery for their sponsorships and Gurney Paragon Mall for providing the space.

Lee says the blood donation campaign is timely as the Penang Hospital blood bank needs to replenish its blood supply.

Lee, who had a brief Zoom meeting with the organisers, commended them for organising the event to help the blood bank which needs to replenish its blood supply.

Also present at the online meeting was Kelvin Yeoh Koon Yong, the area superintendent (Operation), St John Ambulance Malaysia (North East Area, Penang).

Yeoh looks forward to seeing new blood donors at the campaign.

Yeoh expressed hopes that new donors would step forward come Sept 16.

“Most regular blood donors have already donated because of the demand during this Covid-19 pandemic. So, I hope to encourage new donors to help make this charitable event a success,” Yeoh said.
