A TOTAL of 1,000 food baskets have been distributed by the Bukit Tambun service centre to the needy families in the constituency and also in Sungai Acheh in the month of June alone.
Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, who is also the adopted assemblyman (Adun angkat) for Sungai Acheh said his service centre has given out 400 food baskets to the underprivileged in Sungai Acheh and another 600 food baskets in Bukit Tambun in June.
Before this, Goh’s service centre has also been consistently helping the constituents from the underprivileged group during the tough times caused by the Covid-19 pandemic ever since March last year.
“And for this month (July), we will prepare another 1,000 food baskets to be distributed accordingly in both constituencies.
“Each food basket consists of rice, flour, cooking oil, noodles, biscuits, cordial drink, sugar, canned food and others.
“I would like to say thank you also to the good Samaritans who have been assisting our food assistance initiative until now.
“As a state assemblyman, I also would like to thank the Penang government under the leadership of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for the allocation of RM20,000 for each assemblyman that has been channelled recently.
“With this allocation, more people can be assisted,” Goh said after giving out the food necessities to the single mothers and disabled people (OKU) in several places in Bukit Tambun yesterday (July 3).
According to Goh, the food necessities were for 13 single mothers and two OKU living at Kampung Bagan Bukit Tambun, Kampung Masjid and Taman Bukit Tambun.
“I also have given out financial assistance of RM200 to each of them to ease their burden during these pandemic.
“After all, most of them have lost their source of income during this pandemic and living all by themselves in the house and some are also suffering from chronic disease.
“So, they are in need of help. And we will continue to help them,” he added.
