TRADITIONAL performances and heritage-based workshops stole the spotlight at the Penang2030 Festival X Seberang Perai Heritage Day 2025 held at the picturesque Kampung Agong in Penaga today.
Visitors were treated to a colourful blend of cultural heritage and modern innovation through activities such as batik painting, silat demonstrations, wayang kulit performances, and traditional games like sepak raga bulatan, which drew considerable interest from both locals and tourists.

Complementing the cultural showcases were engaging science and technology-based programmes, including STEM workshops and stargazing sessions by Tech Dome Penang.
Visitors also enjoyed creative activities at MBPP’s Maker Space and took part in sustainability workshops hosted by the Penang Green Council (PGC), adding a modern, forward-looking dimension to the day.
The one-day event, held from 2pm to 8pm, drew thousands of visitors and families eager to immerse themselves in the state’s rich cultural tapestry and progressive vision.

The festival was jointly organised by the Chief Minister’s Office (Penang2030 Unit), Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Tech Dome Penang, and PGC.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who officiated the event, said the festival not only celebrates Penang’s cultural roots but also strengthens community bonds, particularly in rural areas.
“The Penang2030 Festival X Seberang Perai Heritage Day 2025 merges the spirit of the Penang2030 initiative with the essence of Seberang Perai’s cultural heritage.
“Amid the lush greenery and traditional charm of the kampung setting, this celebration fosters harmony among people from all walks of life,” Chow said in his speech.
He added that the event also serves as a recognition of the state’s achievements since the inception of the Penang2030 vision seven years ago.
“This festival is not just a celebration; it is an acknowledgement of our continuous efforts and accomplishments.
“By showcasing traditional elements like kuih-making, cultural attire competitions, and folk games, we are proving that heritage can go hand-in-hand with technological and innovative advancements,” he said.
Chow also reaffirmed the state government’s strong commitment to cultural and heritage preservation.
“Our efforts include restoring historical buildings such as Masjid Jamek Benggali, traditional shophouses, monuments, and other significant sites.
“At the same time, we are striving to protect intangible heritage such as local languages and the arts,” Chow added.
The festival concluded with a vibrant fireworks display, symbolising the unity and pride of Penang’s multicultural community.
Also present during the festival were Penang State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Long, state executive councillors Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, Fahmi Zainol and Rashidi Zinol, MBSP mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid, PGC general manager Josephine Tan Mei Ling, Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi and Chief Minister senior confidential secretary Mohd Balkish Othman.
