SOME 1,000 cyclists enjoyed the fresh air in Balik Pulau this morning during the annual ‘City Ride Goes Eco’ cycling event.

The fifth edition of the event saw the participation of both local and foreign cyclists.

It was a chance for them to get away from the bustling city and explore the other side of Penang.

The participants witnessed green paddy fields and village houses in Balik Pulau during their exploration in areas which are off the beaten track.

The event, organised by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and supported by G Club Penang Cyclists, was held to inculcate a healthy lifestyle among Penangites.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present, said the 30km-ride around Balik Pulau had attracted participants from foreign countries such as Switzerland, Thailand, United States, Australia, the Philippines and Japan.
